Lunch with League: Susan Hammer. The person most often requested by our membership has agreed to be the speaker at our January Lunch with League. Please join us on Thursday, January 18, when SUSAN HAMMER discusses the GOALS AND REALITIES OF PUBLIC OFFICE

Former San Jose Mayor Susan Hammer was born in Altadena, California and is a graduate of UC Berkeley. She served on the San Jose City Council before her election, and then re-election, to the office of Mayor. Under her leadership, stronger ties were forged between the City of San Jose and San Jose State University, San Jose was one of the safest big cities in the country, the Greenline Initiative, a measure strongly supported by the League, was passed and instituted Recycle Plus, our citywide recycling program. During the Clinton administration, she was appointed to the President's Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations and was the first elected official and the first woman to chair the panel. In recent years, she co-chaired Santa Clara County's Blue Ribbon Task Force on Education and has served as vice-president of the State Board of Education. .
